Education and RSS

May 30th, 2007

Academia has embraced RSS as a means to educate, but scrutinizing how educational institutions are using RSS feeds in their daily routines show RSS is utilized can vary across different industries.

1. Share Resources
Academics are using social bookmarking websites to share quality websites that relate to their area of expertise with colleagues and students.

2. Class Blogs
From elementary schools to university blogs, online journals have flourished. Instructors have used blogging as a teaching tool. Helping students learn writing and reporting skills while understanding how to use technology. Many educational bloggers use RSS as a means to syndicate blog posts.

3. School Schedule Sports Schedule
RSS feeds can be used to communicate events scheduled on or off campus to prospective and existing students. Subscribes of a schools calendar feed receive notification as new items are added to the calendar.

RSS and Education
Discussions about full and partial feeds emerge in an interview with Rick Klau from FeedBurner.

Whats Up Feed Monitoring

May 30th, 2007

Whats Up is a graduation project, but they might have some trademark issues with the popular network monitoring software by the same name - WhatsUp

Whats Up? is an application that tracks a large number of RSS news feeds. The sources of these feeds are displayed on this world map. Whenever any of the news feeds releases a new article, its title immediately pops up. Instead of listing previously released news, this application shows news as it is released, so you can see what is up right at this moment in the world.

Wordly has a Wikipedia page now. Have mercy on it.

An introduction..

May 30th, 2007

First, let me stress how much I respect WordPress.com and Vox by the Automattic team and Six Apart. They are great. They make true web magic.

However – to me – there's still plenty of room for a more diverse spectrum of services, and gaps (between man, media, and machine) to bridge. Crafting new services in the spirit of not just being better, but different. With plenty of room to improve

  1. usability,
  2. accessibility,
  3. standards-compliance,
  4. loading speeds,
  5. and lower costs

for different user groups. And that's why I founded Wordly.org – a fresh player on the hosted log field.

So now. What is Wordly, really? And how is it different from all the other services? Well. That I'll tell you. After I've had some dinner..

Update: I'm sorry, but I'm really tired, so I don't think I can express myself clearly enough now. Tomorrow, hopefully, precious reader. Good night. Take care.

New domain!

May 30th, 2007

Finally I've registered my first Internet first level domain. Finally!
I'm very happy with the fact!

I've heard that it's better to get higher Sarch Engines rankings.

Anyway, I still playing with the configurations, but you can laready use our
new domain -

IMONETIZEONLINE.COM

It will automatically redirect you to monetizeonline.wordpress.com.

You can simply use imonetizeonline.com! :)

I could't get monetizeonline.com domain, so I've decided to add "I" before
"monetize online".
It brings some kind of personalisation to the blog, I think. ;)  Don't you?
That's why I'm changind blog's title to "I monetize online".

Feel free to post your comments about it as I'm very interested to hear your
opinions.

Faithfully yours,

"I monetize online"

:)

Hard at work

May 30th, 2007

Lookie, lookie! Here's my new SearchPet!
I think I'm gonna name him "Birdie Nam Nam"! I loves my Birdie! :D

Birdie Nam Nam

Anyway. Now I'm gonna eat some, and then continue working at implementing new and old Blogger templates. Hopefully, I can finish that today, and start on Movable Type or WordPress templates tomorrow already.

Good times.

Technorati
is one of the most known and respected blog searching engines.
So it was the matter of time for teh blog to appear on it.

They have very handy tool, which is called "claim your blog".

Here the explanation of the process from Technorati:

"Claiming your blog establishes that you are its owner, and allows you to use Technorati services to increase your blog's visibility."

Apart from that it gives your blog rank position, so you could see the popularity of you blog
within the Technorati community and visitors.

I surelly had to claim my blog, so here's my Technorati Profile.

If you have your own blog - go ahead > register with Technorati > claim you blog now!

Ok, ok!

May 30th, 2007

No bullshitting this time. Wordly is:

  1. Inexpensive. At $16 a year, including 1 (.com/net/org) domain and 2 gigabytes of storage, we're confident we offer the world's best priced personal blog service.
  2. Fast. All pages on Wordly – including blog pages – will be smaller than 10 kilobytes, including CSS. In just 1 request (at less than 10 KB), with no external stylesheets or javascript, we've made sure every page will load fast and smooth.
  3. Simple. Talking of the devil. While WordPress is one techy piece, we're just ordinary people who love storytelling. We're simply not interested in drowning our users in new, nifty features. Wordly will always just be for writing, sharing, and enjoying media together.
  4. For everyone. If there's one thing we strongly believe in, it's enabling everyone access to web content. Thus, every single page on Wordly will be validating XHTML 1.0 Strict, while trying our best to meet W3C's web content accessibility guidelines.

End of story!

PS. Oops. This wasn't exactly "how Wordly deviates from other blog services", was it? Well, you get the basic picture now, at least, and you'll get to see for yourself in time. Till then – take care!
